About the Author
Kazuo Shinohara (1925–2006) was one of the most distinguished and influential Japanese architects of the twentieth century. Architectural historian David B. Stewart (1942–2025) taught alongside Shinohara at the Tokyo Institute of Technology; architect Shin-ichi Okuyama (born 1961) also contributes critical analysis. The foreword is by Ryue Nishizawa (born 1958), cofounder of SANAA and 2010 Pritzker Prize laureate.
