Eduardo Kairuz is not an architect who makes art, nor an artist who borrows from architecture. His practice moves fluidly between both disciplines, shaped by his early work on a rehabilitation project in Barrio San Miguel de La Vega — one of the most violent slums in the southern hemisphere — and by wider observations of crisis and dislocation across Latin America. Dismantled documents the exhibitions Dismantled (Caracas, 2014) and Variations (Melbourne, 2012), in which Kairuz systematically dismantles the conventions of classical music as an analogue for systems of spatial and visual authority. The result is a body of work preoccupied with tension, collapse, and the resilience that emerges in the aftermath. Designed in close collaboration with multi-award winning typographer and multidisciplinary designer John Warwicker, the book's visual language enacts the same dynamic it documents.

About the Author
Eduardo Kairuz studied architecture at Universidad Central de Venezuela before working on a rehabilitation project in Barrio San Miguel de La Vega. His research and creative practice explores the disrupting effects of crisis, conflict, and dislocation on architecture and the city, and his work has been exhibited across Australia, Asia, Europe, the United States, and South America. The book also features critical texts by Sandra Kaji-O'Grady, Costanza De Rogatis, Karina Sainz Borgo, and Sam Spurr.
