Architecture is in crisis, caught between its disciplinary ideals and professional constraints. Education sits at the heart of this tension, shaping how architects think, work, and engage with the world. Yet, it is not neutral—it actively influences the culture of architecture.

The Organizer’s Guide to Architecture Education calls for a radical rethinking of how architecture is taught. It provides students, educators, and practitioners with tools to challenge the status quo, organise collectively, and create a more just and sustainable future.

About the speakers

Peggy Deamer is a Professor of Architecture at Yale University and a principal at Deamer, Architects. She holds a B.Arch. from The Cooper Union and a Ph.D. from Princeton. Her work has been featured in Dwell, The New York Times, and Architectural Record. She has written for Assemblage, Praxis, and Harvard Design Magazine. Deamer has edited multiple books on architecture and labour and is a founding member of The Architecture Lobby, advocating for the value of architectural design and labour. Her research focuses on subjectivity, design, and labour in the contemporary economy.

 

Dr. Kirsten Day (ARBV FRAIA) is a Senior Lecturer in Architecture at the University of Melbourne and Principal Architect at Norman Day + Associates. Her research examines the evolving nature of architectural practice through education, accessibility, and digital preservation. She co-leads research on Design for Neurodiversity and is a Chief Investigator on ARC LIEF projects focused on digital archives. An examiner for the Architects Registration Board of Victoria, she also serves on the Australian Institute of Architects’ Education and Equity committees.
