Join us for the launch of the second edition of Chacarita Moderna by French architect Léa Namer, at Bookshop by Uro, Sydney.

Léa will present her book Chacarita Moderna: The Brutalist Necropolis of Buenos Aires. The book looks at the Sexto Panteón of Buenos Aires, a brutalist necropolis as monumental as it is little known, and its forgotten designer, Itala Fulvia Villa, a fascinating figure of Argentine modernism.

Léa Namer will be introduced by David Neustein, a director of Other Architects, a collaborative practice based in Sydney.

When: 6pm Thursday 14 August 2025
Where:
Bookshop by Uro, 3 Blackfriars St, Chippendale NSW 2008, Australia
Tickets: $5 -Ticket price redeemable as a discount from book purchases.

Originally initiated with Elsa Dupont in January 2019, "Chacarita Moderna" is a project centered around the Sixth Pantheon of the Chacarita Cemetery in Buenos Aires. The study of this unique necropolis is the beginning of a multidisciplinary artistic practice (video, sculpture, installations) and a broader reflection on the relationship of our contemporary societies with death and cemeteries.
